Week 12 of the Fort Lauderdale, FL Experience!

So for some reason I'm really tired, so I expect the letter to be somewhat boring.

Something that I forgot was that last week, I had P-Day on Tuesday because of MLK. Generally we work every holiday that comes up so that we will be more likely to find people at home.

This past week, nothing really crazy happened except for shootings happened. But that's a normal, weekly occurrence of Belle Glade. Yesterday, we saw cops driving on pretty much every street. The whole city was crawling with cops.

So we were able to have stake conference this past week and were able to have an exciting weekend. We went to the Stake Conference Adult session on Saturday and it was super good, talking about hastening the work. One of the people in the mission presidency got up and gave a talk, throwing down on how members need to help the missionaries out. Also, on Sunday we were watching stake conference, and one of the kids in front of us was acting up. Because Belle Glade has some good southern culture, a woman took the kid out of sacrament meeting. 5 minutes later, she comes back with a newly broken switch and the boy. After she sits down, the kids next to him are acting up and she points the switch at the ones acting up and the gesture said, you better not act up any more or you'll get the same treatment!

Also, yesterday night we were able to find out who was going to be leaving Belle Glade and who was staying. My trainer is leaving and I find out tomorrow who is replacing him and "greenie breaking" me. My trainer was a pretty cool guy, he knew the doctrines of the gospel really well and was a super good teacher and knew the area like the back of his hand. I, on the other hand don't really know my way around the area. But I'm a pretty good guesser, so we should be able to get around well. I was halfway expecting to go to an area in my mission that has a lot of Brazilians, but the guy who came down with me got sent there. I'm wondering when my VISA will show up, because it's been a lot of time since I turned it in. There was a Sister that came in, served for 5 weeks, and went to Brazil. My VISA will come in time, but it would be nice if it came soon.

Have a good week!

Week 11 of the Fort Lauderdale, FL experience

Hopefully for whoever is reading this, you have fast internet because there's some extra visual aids included for today's story. So this is a picture of what used to be a Candle that I had. I used up the candle until the wick was gone. The wax was also really low. I took quite a few Match Sticks and stuck them into the wax. I then proceeded to light them and let it burn until the wax was near boiling. This is all in the glass candle holder. I then got the idea to see what would happen when I poured water into it. I poured it in and it started making bubbles and climbing up. I was like, huh, cool, then I started pouring more water in until it looked like this.

The glass cracked from the water being cold, and the glass hot, but that made it really easy for the extraction process from the glass. Then, I took the candle and batted it. It was really cool because it just exploded into a bunch of tiny little pieces.

So another detail that I forgot about Belle Glade is that they burn the sugar cane in the fields. The main stalk of cane is left, but the leaves get burned off. And so ash falls regularly all over Belle Glade. It gets really annoying when it starts to get in your eyes. But it's another character of this pretty one-of-a-kind place!
So I made a scripture case out of a small flat-rate shipping box. Needless to say, it went better than planned and was a perfect fit! Also, there's pictures on the sides and bottom too.

We were able to visit that super talented artist guy and were able to check out some more of his new paintings. They were really sweet.

Also, at a recent converts house, there are puppies! They are super cute! check it out!!

Week 10 of the Fort Lauderdale, FL Experience

So, this has been a pretty exciting week and p-day.
You know how I said we taught 35 lessons last week? Well, this week we had 36 lessons with people who aren't members of the church. And we had a total of 46 lessons. Needless to say, we had a lot of lessons.

Because of these lessons, we didn't have any time to do any super exciting things, but that's pretty good. The only thing that we did that was remotely cool was the batting of things. We batted a head of lettuce this morning, it was pretty cool. That was really about it.

I love all of y'all back home and I think that y'all are the best. Keep doing well in life and grow from your experiences!

I forgot, so now we are allowed 1.5 hours to email now. Woo! Heck yes!

Week 9 of the Fort Lauderdale, FL experience

New years, basketball, new years nerf war, and sleeep.

This past week was pretty cool. We were able to do work. We had a total of 35 lessons with people. I was super excited to be able to see it happen. Oh yeah, some random interesting fact, Belle Glade is nicknamed muck city because of the super fertile soil that it has. And if you're driving a large truck or tractor over the "muck," depending on where you are, It'll start to sink into the ground. And the "muck" just gets everywhere.
New Suit!!!
So we had a really awesome New Years Eve. We were supposed to come home an hour early because of new years eve, so we all got back at 8. We then proceeded to start off the night with a little bit of celebrating. Thankfully we had purchased 4 martinelli's on p-day. We then proceeded to down all four martinelli's and had a lot of fun goofing off and cracking jokes. We then had a few small snacks and then did something really awesome and fun.

We had a Nerf Gun war! It was 2v2 and was super intense. All of the lights were turned off except for a few candles laying around the house. We went back and forth, learning tactical skills and gaining advantages over them all over the place. And, thanks to my audaciousness in advancing and not hesitating, my team almost always won. :) Needless to say, it was the most fun activity that I've been able to do on the mish. Moral of the story: nerf guns are amazing and I wish that I had discovered the value of them much earlier in life.
